2010 AOWCGWA-FORT MYER THRIFT SHOP COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The Army Officers' Wives' Club of the Greater Washington Area (AOWCGWA) along with the AOWCGWA-Fort Myer Thrift Shop
will award academic scholarships to qualified applicants who are sons or daughters of active-duty, retired, or deceased U.S. ARMY personnel.
The applicant will be enrolled in a full or part-time accredited post-secondary education program for the 2010-2011 academic year.
The award will be made on the basis of scholastic merit and community involvement only. The applicant or sponsor must reside in the Greater Washington Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. The only exception to the residency area is coded unaccompanied tours.
THIS SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE AWARDED TO THE SAME INDIVIDUAL ONLY ONCE IN THIS CATEGORY.
Those students accepting a service academy appointment, or any other full scholarship may not accept this award.
This award may not be deferred. However, if the applicant does not receive this scholarship, he or she may reapply at a future date.

B. On a separate sheet of paper, with only your social security number for identification, list the following:
1. Institution where you are currently or will be studying; program or field of study; and expected degree or certification and date of completion.
2. College or colleges previously attended, dates, semester/quarter hours completed; cumulative GPA; major field of study; and degrees earned.
3. Community involvement (during college years) through volunteer or professional experience. Specify positions held (head of committees, participant in programs, job titles, etc.).
4. Name, address, and phone number of advisor, if applicable.
C. Have the college (university) you are attending and all other colleges (universities) you have attended send an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT.
D. On a second sheet of paper, with only your social security number for identification, address the following: Explain how some
particular experience, since you have been in college, has made you more keenly aware of being the son or daughter of an Army parent.
Approximately 200-300 words or 2-3 typed double spaced pages.
E. One (1) letter of recommendation from someone other than a relative who has been in contact with you since you have been in college.
The letter of recommendation must include a telephone number and address where the person writing the letter can be reached.
After identifying the applicant by name one time in the introduction, the writer should then use "he" or "she" throughout the recommendation.
F. READABLE photocopy (front and back) of military dependent ID card
G. Please complete and sign the SEPARATE scholarship agreement form. (This agreement should be downloaded with the application.)
